The woodcut is characterized by little line, but wood-carved surfaces, spots, stripes, lines, wedges that shine white from the black printing surface that remains. In the sixties and eighties, Theodor Gerkens devoted himself intensively to woodcuts, which he cut very vividly, almost painterly. His woodcut works are extensive.
